Photographing the Proposal: Remember it From the Beginning

Christmas proposal at the Henry Clay Estate

What a great way to surprise your bride-to-be: photographs from the moment you ask her to be yours forever. Flexibility was the name of the game on this photo shoot. Andrew planned for the proposal at the outdoor ice rink downtown but it was shut due to malfunction. He decided on this location with the tree in the background. What a beautiful memory:)

Dining With the Fishes

Wouldn’t you like to be invited to a party here?! This is the banquet room at the Newport Aquarium in Newport, KY. It’s across the Ohio River from Cincinnati and has a beautiful Queen City skyline to view through floor to ceiling windows. There’s a great patio area to catch a breath of fresh air if the weather’s nice and the aquarium is open just for guests! Who wouldn’t want to use this venue?

Gabe Gibitz: Guitarist/ Songwriter

I recently- well a month ago (I’m very behind on blogging)- I took photographs for a local musician/ songwriter, Gabe Gibitz. He just released his third record, “I’ll Fly Away.” It was my pleasure to take the photographs on a warm, sunny Saturday afternoon. We walked out into an open field where it was dry enough to lay down and take a cat nap in the sun when we were done shooting. What’s better than that- besides drinking straight from the hose?:) Please visit his web site for full details! http://www.gabegibitz.com/fr_home.cfm

Here is Gabe’s short bio:

For over 6 years, Gabe Gibitz has been leading the Church in worship. In the summer of 2002, Gabe went down to Mexico on a mission trip, where the Lord completely rearranged his life. It was there that he met Abbie (his future wife) and was given a passion to write music and lead others in worship.

After he married Abbie, the Holy Spirit began to do a major work in him, teaching him what truly was important in worship. He learned that it was the anointing and presence of the Holy Spirit that truly makes worship powerful. Both he and Abbie now lead worship together. They live in Wilmore, Kentucky with Toby, their Keeshond. If you would like for them to lead worship at an event in the future, you can contact them through their website. Also, if you’re interested in seeing your dreams fulfilled, Abbie just started her own career and life coaching business! Be sure to check out her website as well.

Christmas is in the Air

Christmas is a beautiful time of year. The lights, the colors, the snow…but it’s nice to have a good, refreshing change. Like a new version of Silent Night or a new family member around the tree. I’m making my Christmas different by taking the ordinary and making it artfully creative. Like my fun self-portrait! Who doesn’t want their face n an ornament? There are so many trees out there why not make them more colorful. This year challenge yourself to see Christmas differently, in a way we-or maybe just you- have never seen it before. May your days be merry and bright.

Christmas Lights: Gabe Gibitz

Music and Christmas. Christmas and Music. They’re like two peas in a pod. What other time of year, holiday or event has so many songs associated with it? Gabe Gibitz, who happens to be my talented brother-in-law, had a vision for his Christmas album. He told me the concept, we experimented and BOOM! Look what happened? I beautiful, snowy frosty-varnished mix of images for his album art. The photos you see above and below are HDR images, tone mapped and tweaked to fit his style and album perfect. Check out his music at his site for a merry Christmas mix! www.gabegibitz.com

Scavenger Hunting for a $15,000 Ring

The last scavenger hunt I went on was at church camp several years ago. The winning booty: a box of lime and cherry popsicles. The scavenger hunt I helped sponsor yesterday had a prize worth a bit more than a freezy pop. Couples (engaged, married, dating) raced around downtown Lexington to win a $15,000 diamond engagement ring! Shelia Bayes Fine Jewelers located in the shops at the Lexington Center sponsored the Race for the Rock. Several local wedding vendors were present to show their support and sponsor the teams as they had two hours to find 46 clues, hidden in a 1-2 mile radius of Triangle Park. No motorized transportation was allowed. Bicycles, scooters and runners/ walkers in light blue shirts blanketed Lexington amid the 90 degree heat. You can check out the official site to see the winners and some of the action! Stay tuned to enter for the event next year!

Telling Stories in a Single Frame- John, Senior Portraits:Lexington, KY Senior Photographs

For 13 years you live a scholastic life that’s much the same. The curriculum changes, the rooms,  and maybe the faces. But every evening after school you eventually make it home to the house you grew up in; the house with your brother or sister and parents. But there comes a time when things change. Decisions about career and life really start to matter. They finally become your responsibility to make. The consequences become yours to own. Many like to call this time “graduation” or the “senior year.” A young person, newly minted ‘adult,’ steps into a world to make a way for themselves. Whether to college, a job or trade school-it’s a new way.

John is a senior at West Jessamine. He was so fun to work with. Up for any adventure or kind of shot I wanted to try. And what photographer wouldn’t be dazzled by those big blue eyes. Great eyes= great photos. Thanks for a great shoot John. I can’t wait to do your second one!

Getting Closer- Horse Mania Challenge: Lexington, KY Photographer

Crazy Quilted Horse

I’m really making headway on this project. I hate to brag but my photos are much better than the Lexington Herald Leader’s. But they are simply reporting-maybe not the facts-but it’s not their job to be creative. So here are even more ponies.

The Siren of the Bluegrass

She is one of my favorites. I like to call her the “MerHorse.” The Little Mermaid has always been my favorite Disney movie. Yes, I’d be Ariel if offered the position. I do love the water-any kind. The ocean is my love. I can’t help that I’m a girl with starfish on her mind:)

CD Release for Chris Weiss: Lexington, KY Photographer

Chris Weiss a very talented local guitarist/ songwriter asked me to take photographs fro his latest CD, “Reflections.” After months in the making, the CD, along with its fabulous cover art, has been released. He had a release party last Saturday night. I meant to go for more than the last 10 minutes to get photographs. I also have to admit my new hidden passion for the Wii game “Just Dance.” Due to some intense competition, I was only able to make it to the last 10 minutes of the show. It’s alright. That’s all I needed to get some great parting shots.

The CD is wonderful. I listen to “Reflections” while I work at my Mac. It’s so smooth, very woodsy. I like that:)

Check out where you can hear Chris by browsing his website:
